Recap of Stage 4

Overcast and relatively cool, the weather conditions were ideal for the first of the two hilly Stages of The ENDURrun. Stage 4 is the only evening Stage, which certainly allowed some additional rest for the participants, but also may provide some more anxiety during the day in anticipation of the later start.

Ultimate – Male (8 Competitors)

Jon continued with quiet confidence, winning his 4th Stage and looking strong. Jon’s overall lead is now 9:00 and will continue to wear the Gold Jersey. Jeff further distanced himself from 3rd place in the overall standings with a 2nd place Stage finish. Jeff bettered his time from 2006 by almost 4 minutes. Steve Formaneck closed the gap on 3rd place overall with this 3rd place Stage finish today and is now within 2 minutes of Chris Duke overall. Chris Duke’s 4th place finishing time this year was also over 4 minutes faster than his 2006 time.

Steven Biggs was not intimidated by the course and continued to run hard in each Stage, not holding anything back. Duff and Chris Kay finished together in true spirit, and Douglas PB’d on this course.

Ultimate – Female (3 Competitors)

April won her 4th Stage and now has an overall lead of 5:57. April will be tough to overcome due to her ability and experience. Joanne continued her consistent performances, always keeping April in sight. Melanie taped her ankle and still ran great, and said not continuing was never an option.

Relay (3 Teams)

Phil Dempsey of the Runners’ Choice Distance Dudes relay team finished 1st, followed by Justin Faulker of the Runners’ Choice Distance Divas, and Scott Cameron of the Guelph Chariots for Hire relay team. The Guelph team has a 47:48 lead overall lead and is on record pace.

Guest Runners (11 Competitors)

2005 Ultimate champion Mike Strano participated again today, and we appreciate his attendance. It is always good to see Mike running well. Local guest runners Adam Brock, Ryan Groen and Brian Verspagen took up the challenge on this difficult course, and we thank them for experiencing The ENDURrun and hope to see them in the future as well.

From the Race Director

It is amazing to be a part of someone’s pursuit of an incredible athletic accomplishment. It gives us great pleasure to provide this opportunity for those brave enough to accept this challenge. Although it is a great amount of work and sacrifice to organize this complex event, witnessing the perseverance of these dedicated athletes has motivated the race crew to commit to The 2008 ENDURrun. We hope to see you next August.

A much deserved rest day on Thursday precedes the most gruelling Stage on Friday.

Congratulations everyone. Rest well.
