Brief recap of Stage 7:

8 Days . . . 7 Stages . . . 160 km . . . 1 Tough Runner!

It was overcast, very windy and much cooler than all previous Stages, but there were no complaints. Everyone had come far too far to let anything get in their way of their goal. This was the only Stage that the participants could give everything they had, holding nothing back for tomorrow. Despite the expected tired legs, the 5 Ultimate participants bravely toed the starting line for the 7th time in 8 days. Only the famed Marathon stood in their way of becoming an ENDURrun finisher, a runner’s ultimate goal.

The strategies of the top two runners were clear. Bob, wearing the Gold Jersey and having a 3:11 overall lead, just needed to run with Brad to claim victory. Brad needed to force the pace and break from Bob if he had any chance of regaining the overall lead. And like a true competitor, Brad attempted many surges, only to have Bob respond each time. On this day, with The ENDURrun crown at stake, Bob was not going to be denied. Gaining confidence as the race went on and getting stronger with each stride, a gap began to separate the two at about the 32 km mark, and Bob was on his way to victory, finishing in 2:50:12. With strong performances and excellent strategy all week, congratulations Bob Jackman, 2006 ENDURrun Champion.

Brad won 3 Stages and wore the Gold Jersey for 3 Stages. After losing the Gold Jersey following Stage 5, Brad held nothing back and won Stage 6 and then set a Personal Best in the Marathon with a time of 2:55:52. Brad went for the victory and has to be commended for his determination and sportsmanship. Congratulations Brad.

Jeff also ran a Personal Best in the Marathon Stage, running 3:14:46, after running a difficult 118 km the prior week. Jeff extended himself both mentally and physically during this challenge, and is now an ENDURrun finisher. You should be very proud Jeff, congratulations.

Steven, the only 4-time ENDURrun finisher, ran his fastest ENDURrun ever was a model of consistency all week. Only better ENDURrun’s are in Steven’s future, and we look forward to your participation again next year. Congratulations Steven.

Chris rounded out a very strong field of exceptional athletes. Always inquisitive, Chris learned a great deal from his fellow competitors throughout the week, which will be beneficial should he accept The ENDURrun challenge in the future. Chris ran exceptional all week and was a great inspiration, congratulations.

The Runners’ Choice Distance Dude’s Relay Team claimed victory in record time. Congratulations also to The Runners’ Choice Distance Diva’s Relay Team. See you next year.

Guest runners in the Marathon Stage today, Libby and Lori, both ran Personal Bests, and our thanks for participating. There were 36 Guest runners in our event this year.

Very special thanks to our dedicated sponsors and volunteers. You are the best.

The 2006 ENDURrun was a tremendous success, and we look forward to providing the opportunity to take the ultimate running challenge and accomplish a runners’ ultimate goal in 2007. Please join us.

Other awards presented today:
“Sprint King” (Cumulative time of both time trials): Brad Cunningham
"Mountain King (Cumulative time of both mountain Stages): Bob Jackman

The format of The ENDURrun combines endurance and speed, patience and control, pacing and strategy. It combines road racing with technical trail running. It combines flat Stages with mountain Stages. It has time trials and mass starts. It has the pressure and challenge of racing day after day, without allowing for complete rest and recovery. It is the ultimate running challenge and a runners' ultimate goal. The ENDURrun does not favour one discipline over another, and as such, the winner of The ENDURrun is the most complete runner.

Congratulations BOB JACKMAN 2006 ENDURrun Champion!
