Brief recap of Stage 4:
The new elements added to Stage 4 were starting time and terrain.
First, this was the only evening Stage, allowing the participants a chance to sleep in. Also, the evening start time was made possible due to Thursday’s rest day.
Second, as The ENDURrun entered the two hilly Stages, participants were faced with 10 miles of continuous hills on Waterloo’s famous Wilmot Line, with both the start line and the finish line on a hill.
The bright sun made the running conditions hot, but the temperature was seasonal and would not be a factor.
The course had marshalls at every turn, and had 6 water stations, allowing the participants the opportunity to concentrate solely on their running.
Once again, the race was tactical, close and very exciting. Many different strategies were being privately discussed by the participants, each trying to gain even the slightest advantage, both in this Stage and the overall event.
Brad and Bob ran mostly together throughout the race, and were neck and neck at 15 km. The last km has a very long hill leading to the finish, and with a remarkable 3:20 last km, Bob pulled away from Brad to capture the victory in Stage 4.Congratulations Bob on your second consecutive Stage victory.
Finishing 12 seconds ahead of Brad, Brad’s overall lead over Bob is now 1:27. Congratulations Brad for retaining your Gold Jersey once again.
As a testament to the pre-race preparation of these athlete’s, Jeff, Steven and Chris acknowledged the difficulty of the course, but were not intimidated by it, and ran extremely well.
Stephen Drew of the Runners’ Choice Distance Diva’s relay team ran a remarkable time of 54:56, cutting into the lead of the Runners’ Choice Distance Dude’s relay team.
Of the Guest runners, Stefan broke the hour mark, Ken finished off back to back Stages, and Sheri took the challenge of participating in a difficult Stage. Katrina continued her plan, completing her 4th of six Stages and is running very well. Thanks for taking part in The ENDURrun.
Tomorrow is the only rest day, followed by the most gruelling Stage on Friday morning.
Congratulations everyone, and enjoy your well-deserved and much-needed rest day.
