Brief recap of Stage 2:
Stage 2 was a time trial, with runners starting 1 minute apart, in reverse order of finish from Stage 1. Mike Strano, wearing the Gold Jersey, started last. The relief of the cool weather of yesterday was brief, as the weather once again started to heat up. The 4 km of trails would offer some welcomed shelter from the hot sun.
Time trials are not very common, which affected some of the participant’s strategies. Tim went out hard but Mike eventually started to close the one-minute stagger and felt comfortable with Tim in his sights over the last few kilometres. Similarly, Melanie closed the gap on her sister April’s overall lead by 9 seconds while running to a 3rd place overall finish today. Both Mike and April have retained the Gold jersey.
It is very interesting to observe the differing strategies among the participants. While some pushed harder yesterday and eased up today, others conserved their energy yesterday and ran harder today. And still others may be saving themselves for the difficult 30 km trail run tomorrow! It is going to be exciting.
In the Relay, the Investors Group team closed the gap on the Runner’s Choice Distance Dude’s team by over 10 minutes due to the excellent run by Mike Archibald.
Special thanks to Guest runner Taya Johnston for taking part in this Stage of The ENDURrun. Excellent run!
Congratulations to all participants today. Back to back hard runs are difficult. Knowing what’s ahead of them tomorrow adds to the difficulty. But creates excitement for us! Good luck tomorrow.
