Brief recap of Stage 1:
With the two-time defending champion sidelined due to injury, a new ENDURrun champion will be crowned in 2005! Eleven dedicated participants have accepted the challenge of running 7 Stages in 8 Days, totalling 160 km. Good luck to everyone!
The cool and wet weather was a very welcome relief from the oppressive heat that we have experienced so far this summer.
Mike Strano paced himself to a comfortable Stage 1 victory and earned the honour of wearing the Gold Jersey for the next Stage. Tim Clarke ran an excellent race and now sits 2:13 behind Mike. Rounding out the top 3 was Steven Parke, who ran an incredible 4:47 faster than his Stage 1 of 2004.
The Female division is even tighter, with April Boultbee capturing the Gold Jersey by pushing to a 1:31:08 finish, followed closely by her sister Melanie. 3rd place went to Andrea Cobham who ran close to her personal best over this distance.
Congratulations are also extended to Adam, Julie, Dan, Gideon and Douglas for running with a true purpose and a common goal.
In the Relay, Kevin Beatty has given the Runners’ Choice Distance Dude’s a commanding lead after Stage 1.
Thanks to Simon, Rebecca and Maryanne for being Guest runners today, and experiencing Stage 1 of The ENDURrun.
I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the dedicated volunteers committed to this event. Your countless hours of hard work have not gone unnoticed by the participants, which is the reason for doing this.
The generous sponsors make The ENDURrun a reality, and I sincerely appreciate their support. Thank you.
Congratulations to all participants in the 3rd Annual ENDURrun, and we hope you accomplish your personal goal.
Good luck in Stage 2 tomorrow, a 15 km time trial.
