Brief recap of Stage 1:

With a number of returning participants, some new faces and a new Relay category, The 2004 ENDURrun got off to a great start under perfect weather conditions.

Defending champion Charles Bedley looked relaxed and confident in his quest to better his 2003 times for each and every Stage this year, and left no doubt about his level of fitness. Charles ran a remarkable 1:12:03, which is 1:42 seconds than last years 1st Stage, and captured the Gold Jersey for Stage 2.

Other returnees, Catherine and Steven, know what's ahead of them through experience, and it will be very interesting to follow their strategies as this event unfolds.

As for the new faces, we don't know at this point whether anyone has made the mistake of either going out too fast, or too conservatively. Either way, it could be painful or costly.

The Relay is an exciting addition to The ENDURrun and is shaping up to be quite competitive, but there is a long, long way to go (6 Stages and 138.9 km to be exact).

Thanks to Adam and Ian for being Guest runners today, and for experiencing Stage 1 of The ENDURrun.

Sincere appreciation is extended to the great work of the volunteers today, especially The Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River who provided a safe, well marshalled course, and the many others who contributed to todays success. The City of Waterloo provided a great venue at RIM Park, and the course was beautiful through the countryside. Dearborn Health will be looking after the medical needs of the participants during this event, and their expertise was welcome and very much appreciated today. This event would not exist without their support, and from the support of Saucony, Runners' Choice and The Economical Insurance Group.

Congratulations to all participants in the 2nd ENDURrun, and we hope you accomplish your personal goal.

Good luck in Stage 2 tomorrow, a 15 km time trial.
