Since 2000 I've been training with my wife Joanne Bink, and remained injury free. She has helped me achieve my running goals during that time. |

The ENDURrun is what it is because of Lloyd Schmidt, his family, and the support staff. As a running event it is definitely both a physical and a mental challenge. The attention to detail, extensive support, delicious food, friendly and competitive atmosphere, carefully-designed race courses, and fantastic athletes make the ENDURrun a unique event. |

If you ask me before a race I'd say Marathon, if you ask me after a race I'd say 100m! |
| Favourite race food, drink |
Nutrition is always a challenge for me during
a race and I'd prefer to go sans-food if I could finish without it, but to
keep me going I prefer Clif Shots and e-Load. By the end of a marathon I'm
lucky if I can get my regularly scheduled water to go down! |
| Running history |
I started running in 2003 for health reasons, but didn't
compete in my first road race until September 2004 when I ran the
Scotiabank half marathon. It was a challenge and I hurt afterward, but the
excitement of the race had me hooked. I ran the Scotiabank full marathon
in 2005 followed by Ottawa and Niagara Falls in 2006 and culminating in
Mississauga in the spring of 2007. In between these long races I've run
5k's, 5 milers, and Around the Bay 30 km in Hamilton. Between road running
I take part in a few adventure races each year including Storm the Trent,
Raid the Hammer, Salomon Winter Adventure Challenge, and even a couple
urban adventure races. I also enjoy playing team sports and have played
Ultimate Frisbee for 11 years. My goal at the ENDURrun is to finish in one
piece and to take the first step toward running ultra-marathons (I'm not
sure which is worse: 50 km all at once or 160 km in eight days...I suppose
I'll find out). |

At first I thought that the ENDURrun was beyond me. Watching it and participating as a guest runner in 2006 gave me the courage to train, under the guidance and wisdom of Ray Nelson, as an ENDURrun 2007 Ultimate competitor. The ENDURrun is more than a race. The personal attention that each athlete receives, the camaraderie amongst the competitors, and the extensive support of the volunteers make it a great experience. Hey, where else do race directors organize your birthday party?! |

I started running freshman year in high school. I wanted to do a sport
so track it was. I ended up running cross country, indoor and outdoor
track. I continued this in college as well, running 3 seasons all four years.
After college I was injured and took time off. Returning back to running
in 2003-2004 my goal was to run a marathon. In the fall of 2005 I ran my
first marathon. Now with 5 marathons under my belt it's time for another
challenge, The ENDURrun! |

I am running the Endurrun this year to raise money for 2 organizations: Kids n Dads and Kids Need Dads Too. I started running 8 years ago at age 39, when my then 2 year old Weimaraner needed more than walking to calm him down. We started with a 1.5 mile loop in the park near my house and slowly progressed from there. He was a great running partner for many years. Now, at age 10, he's more of a walker :-) I've meet an incredible group of friends through running who have supported and encouraged me to push myself further than I ever imagined. I have run 5 marathons and lots of half marathons, as well as shorter distances. I have been thinking about doing an Ultra (50 miler) for the past two years but have yet to do that. I enjoy trail running. I've never been a strong hill runner so I will definitely be working on that over the next 8 months. |

| Running history |
At age 21 I was working as a receptionist at a health club and the manager
challenged me to run around one City block (Toronto). I couldn´t do it but it
fueled my passion for running. I ran a few races in Toronto and ran through a
few snowy, icy winters. Then moved to the Dominican Republic. I ran on the beach
with my dogs every morning for 14 years! When I moved to PA, my enthusiasm waned
when faced with ice and snow again! Then I met a group of fantastic women runners.
We keep each other challenged and motivated and my enthusiasm has returned.
I am looking forward to the challenge and focus of training. |
