Like Mel, I ran a bit of cross-country in junior high. I started up again in my early twenties. I like road races and really enjoy running cross-country races in the fall. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2005 Endurrun, and I am looking forward to 2007. |

Ran in high school in the '80s and occasionally through university, work, and children for 15 years. Ran a 38min 10 km in highschool, but this was a long time ago. My goal is to do a sub 40 soon. Started running seriously in 2004 again. I've done 8 marathons which I really love. |

If you ask me before a race I'd say Marathon, if you
ask me after a race I'd say 100m! |
| Favourite race food, drink |
Nutrition is always a challenge for me during
a race and I'd prefer to go sans-food if I could finish without it, but to
keep me going I prefer Clif Shots and e-Load. By the end of a marathon I'm
lucky if I can get my regularly scheduled water to go down! |
| Running history |
I started running in 2003 for health reasons, but didn't
compete in my first road race until September 2004 when I ran the
Scotiabank half marathon. It was a challenge and I hurt afterward, but the
excitement of the race had me hooked. I ran the Scotiabank full marathon
in 2005 followed by Ottawa and Niagara Falls in 2006 and culminating in
Mississauga in the spring of 2007. In between these long races I've run
5k's, 5 milers, and Around the Bay 30 km in Hamilton. Between road running
I take part in a few adventure races each year including Storm the Trent,
Raid the Hammer, Salomon Winter Adventure Challenge, and even a couple
urban adventure races. I also enjoy playing team sports and have played
Ultimate Frisbee for 11 years. My goal at the ENDURrun is to finish in one
piece and to take the first step toward running ultra-marathons (I'm not
sure which is worse: 50 km all at once or 160 km in eight days...I suppose
I'll find out). |

| Why? |
I spend so much time running in the City on pavement, this will be an excellent diversion, tough but meaningful. |
| Goals |
- To finally run 100 miles (thankfully not on the same day)
- The guys I usually run with are so much faster than me, but when I finish this event I will be one up on them.
- To finish upright and smiling

I began training for distance running in 2000. My training has been sporadic though. For the most part I've trained with my wife, Joanne Bink, who has had a structured training program for years. Recently, I've been trying ultra-marathon distances, and have had some success. |
